Halo: Advanced Connectivity for Commercial Drones and BVLOS Operations

Scalable Commercial Drone Connectivity for BVLOS Operations: Field Proven and Mission Ready

In the rapidly expanding commercial drone market, mission success is non-negotiable. Elsight’s Halo BVLOS communication platform delivers reliable, uninterrupted connectivity across any terrain, climate, or application. Its multi-link BVLOS platform intelligently combines multiple cellular (5G/LTE) connections, RF, and satellite links into a single, bonded pipe. The compact, 93-gram, palm-sized Halo is trusted by leading UAV manufacturers and operators worldwide, with hundreds of thousands of hours of proven field performance.

What Sets Halo Apart?

Typically, UAVs rely on a single or double cellular connection, leaving them vulnerable to failures and dropped links. Standard “fail-over” solutions (e.g. micro-hard with RF and LTE) must completely disconnect from the primary link to dial into the secondary link. The application would also disconnect and need to reconnect to restore the connection. In our terminology, “disconnect” is “game over”. With the Halo, all the links are aggregated and managed internally, steering traffic between links and carriers, thereby using them all at the same time.

Halo aggregates all available communication links, including LTE/5G, SATCOM, and private networks into a single bonded data pipeline. This capability ensures uninterrupted connectivity for all drone manufacturers and operators with their unmanned platforms by removing reliance on any one network, enhancing operational effectiveness in difficult environments and terrains.

Halo uses intelligent bonding technology that splits data into AES-256-CBC encrypted packets and transmits them simultaneously across all available networks. These packets are reassembled at the destination through secure VPN tunneling, maintaining both security and redundancy. The system automatically routes traffic based on real-time link performance and provides seamless transitions between networks without drops by using a logical connectivity layer where prioritizing specific data streams is made possible.

Compact, secure, and field-proven, Halo ensures drone operations stay connected and productive, wherever your business takes you.

In certain environments where communication paths are often compromised, Halo’s BVLOS multilink communication platform bonds all available communication links into a secure encrypted pipe delivering continuous connectivity. The comprehensive set of communication networks includes:

Public cellular networks – Public LTE/5G infrastructure with multiple carriers and bands for extended BVLOS range and rapid deployment capabilities.

Private 5G networks– e.g., dedicated public safety communications infrastructure.

Radio systems– MESH and P2P SDR integration for resilient tactical communications.

Satellite communications– LEO/GEO SAT integration (e.g. Viasat, Iridium, Starlink)

Box Halo: Instant, Rugged Connectivity Anywhere

The Boxed Halo is a rugged, portable communications hub that delivers secure, stand-alone connectivity in any environment. No integration required, just power it up, and it bonds cellular, satellite, and RF links to provide uninterrupted coverage.

Ideal for remote or hard-to-reach sites, Boxed Halo ensures constant data relay for operations such as infrastructure inspections of power lines, wind turbines, bridges, and towers, where single-carrier coverage is limited. By intelligently bonding multiple networks, it keeps live drone inspection feeds flowing without interruption, from forward operating bases to emergency command posts.

Multilink Bonding for Safe, Always-On BVLOS Operations

Single-channel or dual-link connectivity introduces critical vulnerabilities.  Halo leverages the full spectrum of communication channels, including 5G/LTE cellular connectivity across multiple providers (multi-SIM), private cellular and radio networks, as well as LEO/GEO satellites, such as Starlink and Viasat. Halos’ Intelligent link bonding aggregates multiple communication links into a single, secure logical connectivity pipe, eliminating any single point of failure while reducing network complexity.

A predictive connection health continuously monitors all communication links and predicts connection quality performance to identify compromised channels, while Zero-interruption, soft handoffs automatically steer traffic in real-time to the best available channels before degradation affects your operations.

A configurable, built-in traffic prioritization and QoS (Quality of Service) policies shape and direct per-link traffic, allowing real-time traffic like video or control commands to take precedence.

Improve your Mission Planning with HeatSight Intelligence

Weather, terrain, and altitude all impact connectivity and operational success. Elsight’s HeatSight provides 4D cellular coverage visualization from a drone’s perspective, revealing connectivity patterns across time, location, and altitude. Auto-generated signal heatmaps provide mission planners with the connectivity intelligence they need, enabling them to plan optimal routes and operate with confidence.

1

Plan smarter missions with actionable cellular coverage data to identify optimal network routes, avoid dead zones, and optimize mission timing for peak connectivity.

2

Ensure regulatory compliance with “well-connected path” requirements using HeatSight historical data.

3

Prepare specialized flight profiles based on historical weather impacts.

Advanced Security & Data Protection

Protect your mission-critical data with enterprise-level security that meets the highest standards for commercial drone operations. Mission-critical data, including video, telemetry, and sensor feeds, is transmitted through secure VPN tunnels to the Allsight management platform, available in both cloud-based and on-premises deployment options. AES-256-CBC encryption and data-splitting techniques protect sensitive information and maintain communication integrity across all channels, even if individual links are compromised.

BVLOS Certification-Ready Solution

Streamline regulatory approval with Elsight’s Halo. Halo has played an essential part in gaining certification for many unmanned aircraft platforms from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other authorities around the world, including the first BVLOS certification.

Halo’s Built-in FAA and EASA-compliant Remote ID functionality supports both broadcast and Network Remote ID to eliminate the need for additional hardware and simplify your platform design.
