Out of the dark comes Mobile SD-WAN

As enterprise networking continues to expand, and the appetite for cloud computing and edge devices increases, traditional fixed-architecture wide-area networking (WAN) has struggled to keep up. Software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) has allowed businesses to enhance performance and security, simplifying network operations and enabling a variety of bandwidth-intensive applications.

Mobile SD-WAN extends connectivity even further, providing a backup to fixed lines or even providing the ability to extend into areas without fixed network infrastructure and allowing remote locations or mobile units such as drones to become part of the SD-WAN network.

Connectivity at the edge, however, comes with its own set of challenges. Mobile networks may not be available or provide reliable connection everywhere, and mobile edge devices such as vehicles or drones may pass through various communication environments in the course of their operations.

Mobile SD-WAN can also be troubled by inherent security risks. With many users remotely connecting to a main network via a range of internet-connected devices, many potential unsecured entry points are introduced, making security considerations increasingly more complex. Many security solutions designed for traditional network architectures lack the flexibility and interconnectivity to address these issues and to provide consistent protection across the entire SD-WAN.

Elsight Halo product page

Elsight’s Halo is a smart solution that addresses the challenges of mobile, portable or stationary connectivity at the edge, delivering the reliability and performance any company and service provider requires, even in highly demanding environments. Using unique bonding technology, it utilizes all available IP-based networks (3G/4G/5G/SAT/ Direct RF Link*) to provide the best possible bandwidth and lowest latency, all with advanced security for peace of mind.

Halo is based around Elsight’s unique proprietary 6th Sense technology – an AI-powered system that continually monitors all available connections and provides automatic network optimization to ensure highly available communication at any particular time and space. The powerful system intelligently predicts network loads and conditions to ensure optimal usage and performance, giving you absolute confidence in the robustness of your connectivity.

The highly versatile Halo is agnostic to its underlying IP networks, cellular carriers, and pairing topologies, allowing it to be easily integrated into any use case. With four SIM slots, it provides greater redundancy, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness than other solutions. With a small form factor and extremely low power consumption, Halo allows you to easily install reliable real-time communications almost anywhere.

Halo provides continuous over-the-air encryption of all data, providing the utmost in secure transmission. This high level of security makes the platform ideal for Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solutions that can protect an SD-WAN from a variety of threats while maintaining low latency.

This unprecedented combination of flexibility, intelligent connection management, reliability and security gives Halo a unique advantage over other solutions on the market. Critical connectivity can be provided to open up a diverse range of use cases, including:

Rural broadband – provide essential services, such as remote schools and health clinics, and drone deliveries, to previously unconnectable remote areas.

Telehealth – enable providers to deliver critical health care, such as test results and real-time diagnosis, where distance and other factors make in-person care virtually impossible.

Remote learning – access to education and training without the need to be onsite, with fast video transmission and data upload and download.

Mobile connectivity – remote management of assets and gathering of critical data to support real-time decision-making.

Distributed workforce – Enable the seamless communication of workforce distributed in different locations, locally and globally.
